The Art of Painted Pottery

-From the Yangshao Culture, the Dawenkou Culture, the Qujialing Culture, and the Majiayao Culture

During the period of the patriarchal clan society, there was a very common handicraft production in the people's social life--the production of pottery. The production of pottery is an important symbol of the development of human civilization. Closely related to the social life of mankind, with epoch-making great significance. The production of colored pottery is a major development of pottery industry, colored pottery is a kind of handmade pottery with red, black and other colors painted with patterns in the Neolithic era, mainly Yangshao culture, the Dawenkou culture, the Qujialing culture, the Majiayao culture type. The differences between them constitute a colorful history of colored pottery. Their differences are discussed in the following seven aspects.

One, the discovery of the region.

Yangshao culture, through the archaeological experts of the successive excavations, in Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei and Gansu East and other areas have been found, and gradually formed in the center of the region, Jin. The Majiayao culture is mainly located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, mainly in Gansu, Qinghai and the southern part of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the northern part of Sichuan.

II. Decorative patterns.

Yangshao culture color pottery decorative pattern content is relatively rich, there are animal patterns, plant patterns, figures, geometric patterns.
