What's the name of Beijing embroidery?

Beijing embroidery is also called palace embroidery.

The history of Beijing embroidery can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Liao Dynasty. There is an embroidery courtyard in Yanjing. After the Yuan Dynasty made Beijing its capital, with the social stability and economic development of the feudal dynasty, in order to better serve it, the imperial court concentrated outstanding craftsmen from all over the country in Beijing, further improving this skill.

After the Ming Dynasty, the characteristics of court embroidery, such as stitches, skills, labor, materials and patterns, became more distinct, and the number of embroiderers increased day by day. In the Qing dynasty, the "embroidery bureau" was also set up in the palace. During this period, the palace embroidery blended all kinds of excellent embroidery techniques from China, developed its own characteristics and became a unique representative embroidery.

Especially during Guangxu period, it was famous at home and abroad, with exquisite materials and elegant style. Beijing embroidery is characterized by bright colors of embroidery lines, similar to pastel and enamel in porcelain. When it comes to smoothness, fineness, uniformity and luster, compared with Suzhou embroidery, Beijing embroidery even surpasses Suzhou embroidery.

Inherited value:

Beijing embroidery products fully embody the functional significance of "printed style", which is different from the poetic meaning of famous embroidery in Jiangsu, Hunan and Gu, and reveals the heroic temperament of northern culture.

Compared with other embroideries, Beijing embroidery did not develop independently in a completely free cultural environment. Individual embroidery workers, while constantly pursuing skills, are deeply influenced by the culture and will of the ruling class and form a unique style.

After the demise of the feudal dynasty, this influence has been deeply engraved in the craft tradition and culture of Beijing embroidery, and has become an important personality characteristic that stands out from embroidery in the modern cultural environment.
