Three, in 1891, James Naismith in the United States, Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA International Training School as a teacher. Luther Gulick, head of the school's physical education department, commissioned Naismith to design an indoor group game to implement the winter physical education syllabus. Naismith created the basketball game[3] inspired by the local children's favorite game of throwing a ball into a basket of peaches.
At first, Naismith nailed two baskets to the railing of the bleachers in the gym, with the top rim of the baskets 3.04 meters (about 10 yards) above the ground, and used a football as the game's instrument of choice for throwing the ball into the baskets. Throwing the ball into the basket scores one point, and the winner is determined by the number of points scored. Each time the ball into the basket, to climb the ladder to take out the ball and then restart the game. Later gradually changed the bamboo basket to live bottom of the iron basket, and then changed to the iron ring below the net. People call this game "Naismith ball" or "basket ball", a long time later, after Naismith and colleagues repeatedly discussed the name "basketball".
