I have really seen many new cars, but I have also seen many wonderful car designs that make people laugh and cry, so that every time I see these designs, I can't help but ask, is the designer out of his mind?
Of course, these fresh and wonderful designs are still "active" on various booths at the recent Guangzhou Auto Show, which really puzzles me! Therefore, we decided to sort out a list of "curiosity" and take stock of the wonderful designs you can see at this auto show. The judging standard has nothing to do with aesthetics, but from the perspective of functionality and practicality.
In short, the designs on this list are all designs that increase the cost and are useless. This "curiosity-seeking" list can be used as an alternative tour route for future exhibitions, but if it can also be used as a lightning protection guide for buying a car, it will be even more meritorious.

With an unprecedented "seven-door design"? Gaohe HiPhi? X earned enough attention at the Beijing Auto Show held at the end of September. Perhaps the rich were also "surprised" by the seven doors on the booth. It is said that this car received more than 500 orders on the spot before it went on the market.
Let's count the seven doors first. -Four doors+two roof doors+one tailgate.
But what I want to say is that the design of these seven doors not only has not brought any leading innovation to automobile design, on the contrary, the experience they bring to users may be disastrous.
The first is the design of the opposite door. This way of opening the door reminds people of Rolls-Royce for the first time, which is also the desired effect of Gaohe Automobile. And officially, HiPhi? The design concept of X is "Super Run+Rolls-Royce Combination".
This design itself is not a big problem, but the biggest drawback is that the driving range will be much larger than that of ordinary cars, so the requirements for parking spaces are higher. Although HiPhi? X's four doors can also be adjusted at will, but according to my actual experience, if this door is only slightly opened, getting off may not be as convenient as the conventional door design, and the experience is really tasteless.
However, to say that I want to vomit most, I still count the two doors on the roof. When introducing their usage, the government designed some scenes, such as opening the roof door and getting off to avoid hitting your head, such as being a concierge car, watching stars in the car, and so on.
However, the roof is the main part of the body structure responsible for bearing and compression, and there are rollover tests specifically for the strength of the roof in automobile safety tests at home and abroad.

X The design of these two roof doors just splits the roof structure connecting the three pillars of ABC, which not only completely destroys the body structure and affects the rigidity of the body, but also increases the number of electronic components because of the existence of these two roof doors, which undoubtedly greatly increases the fault point of the vehicle-Tesla model? X gull-wing doors are frequently complained of various faults and various leaks, which is a lesson from the past.
In a few usage scenarios, two more roof doors add gimmicks, but the safety and reliability of the vehicle are seriously damaged. This wonderful design should be resisted!
Weilai ES8
Highlights: Queen's seat
Cause: There are serious security risks.
The "female throne" on the co-pilot has always been a big selling point on Weilai ES8, because it can provide great comfort and enjoyment. However, there are great security risks behind this design.
Because when the seat is down, people are separated from the seat belt fixed on the B-pillar, and at the same time, they are far away from the co-pilot airbag, so there is obviously a great safety hazard when using it during driving.
It is understandable that Weilai relies on the "female throne" to create a sense of luxury, but if you pay attention, you will find that real luxury brands rarely make a fuss about the co-driver. Most of them just add a tripod behind the co-pilot, or the co-pilot can be folded into a tripod, and the real "boss seat"-or the most comfortable seat-is generally the position behind the co-pilot. Moreover, the design of the "boss seat" will fully consider safety to ensure that the seat belt can limit the occupants to the seat.

Tucki G3
Highlights: 360-degree camera on the roof
Cause: Adding fault point is not irreplaceable.
Although Tucki's P7 is more popular recently, Tucki's G3 is undoubtedly the best-selling model in their family, and it is also indispensable at this auto show. But to be honest, among the grotesque new products, the design of Tucki G3 is not too surprising.
But for the new forces, the model has no "memory point", and rounding is equivalent to no chance, so Tucki is also "smart" and installed a "360-degree roof camera" on the roof.
When the camera part rises, it can take 360-degree photos of the outside of the car, which can be used not only as a panoramic image when parking, but also as a driving situation and scenery on weekdays.
It sounds very practical, but I thought that the 360-degree panoramic image function is no longer an innovative function, and now many models are equipped with it; As for shooting road conditions and scenery, harm! Can't these be replaced by driving recorders and cameras? The effect is better.
▲ Now some conventional 360-degree panoramic images are enough, and the Tucki G3 roof camera has not brought any breakthrough function improvement.
So this function is neither new nor irreplaceable. Moreover, there is a hole in the roof to install a camera and add more electronic components. Highlights: four screens in central control
Cause: increase the cost and fault point, and blindly cancel the physical key.
Tesla's "big screen" trend has been popular with a group of new forces in China, and it is even worse to use a big screen. Ideal is a typical representative.
On Li ONE, you can see that the whole central control area is covered by four large-size LCD screens, namely 12.3 inch digital instrument screen, 16.2 inch central control screen, 10. 1 inch function control screen and 12.3 inch passenger entertainment screen from left to right.
I have learned a lesson from Weilai's sudden black screen shutdown, and my ideal is also caution. It is said that Li ONE's four big screens are also equipped with different operating systems, namely Linux and Android, in order to prevent a failure from causing collective downtime.
If neither system can avoid the risk of downtime, it is better to get a few physical buttons honestly, which is simple and worry-free.
However, avoiding "collective downtime" cannot eliminate users' concerns. All physical buttons are integrated in these four screens. Even if any screen falls, it will lead to different degrees of functional failure, which will greatly affect the use of car owners-what users want is not "not to stop collectively", but "not to stop"!

In fact, Li ONE's design of engaging in a bunch of big screens and blindly canceling physical buttons is by no means unique among the new forces. HI in high technology? Similar designs can be seen on X and sky ME7. This design not only greatly increases the production and maintenance costs and fault points, but also is inconvenient to use. What should we do?
Byd company limited
Highlights: car microphone
Reason: increasing the cost is of little practical use.
BYD is a pioneer in the "in-car karaoke" industry. With a microphone in the car, it is estimated that the new forces dare not open their minds so wide.
The microphone equipped in each car is not heavy, and I feel that BYD's car microphone can be used as a sideline.
Although this function has indeed earned BYD a lot of eyeballs, but think about it carefully, how many people will really sing karaoke while riding? In essence, karaoke in the car is more like a marketing gimmick. This function is not only used less frequently, but also a design that increases the production cost.
There is an original driving recorder that is more practical than a microphone.

Audi Q7
Highlights: the design of the second and third rows of seats
Reason: The second row is complicated and laborious to fold, and the third row is sitting and humbled.
In my previous test drive article, I actually talked about the second and third row design of Audi Q7.
Generally speaking, seven cars enter the third row. The common practice is to put the backrest in the second row forward and then pull it forward along the platform slide rail. Q7 folds the seats on both sides of the second row twice. Although it has a certain boosting effect, it is still laborious and not elegant to operate.
The experience of the third row of seats is even more disappointing-the platform of the third row is not properly raised and made into a stepped layout, but the backrest of the second row of seats is high, which leads to the poor view of the third row, and people can't see the people in the first two rows when they sit down a little. In addition, the third row of space is not performing well, and there is a feeling of being blocked by the third row of guardrail, like sitting in a circle.
Even if three rows of passengers sit up straight, the height of the second row of seats is still much higher than the shoulder position, and a little sitting down will greatly affect the vision.
Others see that you drive a luxury car, but not everyone can have the experience of riding a luxury car while sitting in it. If you buy a luxury car to entertain yourself, I advise you to think twice when choosing such a luxurious 7-seat SUV.

Highlights: wireless charging function
Reason: it is inconvenient to use.
At present, the wireless charging function of car mobile phone is quite common, and the design of wireless charging area is also varied, some are placed in the groove below the central control area, some are placed in the armrest box, and some are placed next to the shift lever. Some work well, but some are really awkward.
And the wireless charging position of Audi e-tron should be the most incredible I have ever seen. It is set in a narrow storage slot behind the shift lever and on one side of the cup holder, and its position is very hidden. I didn't know there was a wireless charging board here.
The mobile phone must be plugged into the groove to charge wirelessly. In order to ensure effective charging, a fixing clip is added in the groove to ensure that the mobile phone can cling to the charging board.
Although this design saves space to some extent, it makes it impossible for you to watch your mobile phone while charging wirelessly. Although you can also choose to project mobile navigation on the car or navigate directly by car, domestic consumers have always been accustomed to using mobile navigation directly, which will be very inconvenient to use. After e-tron is put into production in China, can it make some localization adjustments that are more suitable for consumers' car habits?
Baojun E300
Highlights: Shift lever position
Reason: it is easy to dial the wrong number.
Because the mechanical structure of pure electric vehicles (BEV) is simpler, the shift lever of many pure electric vehicles is no longer located between the main driver and the co-driver, but moved near the steering wheel to leave more space between the front seats. This kind of free space design is actually very friendly for some micro or small bev which is already short of space.
The designer of Baojun E300 probably thinks so. However, the shift lever of this BEV is designed in an awkward position-close to the wiper lever, which is easy to cause misoperation.
More "fatal" is that the gear lever, like the wiper, is operated by pulling up and down. Before the test drive, when it rained, I tried to dial the wiper several times but put the gear in N gear. Even after driving all day, I still can't adapt.
In contrast, Volkswagen ID.4, which will be sold in China, not only effectively avoids misoperation, but also becomes a very iconic design in the interior, which is worth learning.
There should be eggs here.

Nezha Auto is also a new brand of automobiles born in recent years. The biggest selling point of its first model, Nezha U, is the "transparent A-pillar".
Its main function is to capture the road conditions in front of the blind area of the A-pillar through two cameras on the rearview mirror, and then reflect the photographed road conditions to the driver through two LCD screens embedded in the A-pillar, thus achieving the effect of supplementing the visual blind area.
But as we all know, in the event of a collision, the A-pillar bears a great impact, and the A-pillar also shoulders the important responsibility of preserving the living space of the cockpit. Installing electronic components on the A-pillar casually may not only affect the safety structure of the A-pillar, but once the rigidity of the A-pillar is insufficient, the components may fall off and fly out during the collision, which does not rule out secondary injury to drivers and passengers.
It is worth mentioning that "transparent A-pillar" is an optional configuration, and the price is 1.2 million yuan. In other words, the more money you spend, the more fault points and security risks you get. It is estimated that you will choose to install when you are out of your mind.

However, this function will go up after the vehicle is powered on, but it cannot go down, which will hinder the vision, easily distract the driver's attention and affect the driving safety.
Similar functions include NOMI of Weilai, which seems to be equipped with an intelligent assistant for the owner, but its practical use is not great, and it is also a design that increases costs and fault points and affects safety!
In the field of art design, even if an abstract painting is ugly, as long as one person says it looks good, the painting will realize its value.
Automobile design belongs to industrial design, and the purpose of industrial design is to embody the functionality of design. Therefore, the design of the car, while taking into account the aesthetic feeling, is more to serve the function. If a car design, not only can't solve some problems, but also can't realize any real experience improvement, it will increase the cost of car purchase and even bring hidden dangers to vehicle safety. Such a design is undoubtedly a failed design.
