Origin of Constellation

"Constellation (constellation) "The origin of the word "constellations" may go back as far as prehistoric times. At that time, ancient people simply used them to tell about their beliefs, experiences, creations or some mythological stories.

The adoption of constellations changed significantly over time, with many constellations changing drastically in size or shape, perhaps as a result of the age difference (the earth's axial progression).

Of these constellations, 48 traditional Western constellations were named during the Hellenistic period, and so are also known as Greek constellations. These Greek constellations often appear in Aratos's Physical Signs and Ptolemy's Great Book of Astronomy, although the origins of the Greek constellations may predate these works by several centuries.

In 1928, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) officially delineated and standardized the names of the 88 modern constellations, precisely delineating the boundaries between them and covering the entire celestial sphere. In the current celestial coordinate system, any point is located in a modern constellation (any point in the night is located in a known constellation).
