The National Specialty Construction Point (TS 10520) is a model undergraduate major in Guizhou Province and a brand major in Guizhou University.

Forestry major is the founding major of Forestry Department, the predecessor of Forestry College. 1958 began to enroll students, and 46 undergraduates graduated successively. In the past 50 years, the forestry major has trained a large number of outstanding senior and middle-level management and technical talents, which has made great contributions to the forestry development, vegetation restoration and environmental protection in Guizhou. Through the efforts of generations of forestry scholars, the development of forestry specialty has been different day by day, and gratifying achievements have been made in specialty construction, discipline construction, teacher team construction and scientific research team construction.

Specialty construction: In recent ten years, forestry specialty has paid great attention to its own construction, adapting to the new situation of national forestry industry development. According to the talent training goal of "thick foundation, wide caliber, strong ability and high quality" put forward by the Ministry of Education, the talent training program of forestry specialty has been adjusted three times, making the training program more and more perfect. In 2006, forestry major was rated as a brand major of Guizhou University, and in 2007, it was rated as a model undergraduate major of colleges and universities in Guizhou Province. On February 29th, 2007, 65438 was approved by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance as a national class characteristic specialty construction site (TS 10520). At present, the forestry major has received 330,000 yuan of various construction funds.

Discipline construction: Forestry major belongs to two disciplines, 199 1 became the first batch of key disciplines in Guizhou Province, and 1985 began to recruit master students, with a total of 63 graduates. In 2005, it was approved as a doctoral degree authorization point, and it was officially enrolled in 2007. At present, this major has applied for 1 provincial-level excellent courses and 3 school-level key courses.

Construction of scientific research team: Forestry specialty is based on the national ecological construction and the development of forestry industrialization, and carries out scientific research around the ecological environment construction in southwest karst mountainous areas and the major policy of building an ecological province in Guizhou. Through years of hard work, an academic echelon with stable research direction, fruitful scientific research results, rigorous scholarship, high level and reasonable structure has been built. At present, professional teachers undertake 37 national, provincial and ministerial projects, with a total subsidy of 6174,000 yuan. Main research directions: theory and technology of directional cultivation of plantation, theory and technology of tree seedling breeding, theory and technology of vegetation restoration of degraded karst forest, genetic improvement of forest trees, "3S" technology and its application, and community forestry.

The specialty of soil and water conservation and desertification control, formerly known as the Ministry of Forestry, was established in Guizhou Agricultural College, 1958. At the end of 1990s, colleges and universities were adjusted, and Guizhou Agricultural College merged with Guizhou University, belonging to the Agricultural College of Guizhou University. After the enrollment expansion of colleges and universities nationwide, the newly added applied major of soil and water conservation and desertification control 1998 was approved, and the undergraduate major of soil and water conservation and desertification control was established, which was subordinate to the Ministry of Forestry. 1999 enrolls the first freshmen, and it is the only major that trains professionals in soil and water conservation and desertification control in all colleges and universities in Guizhou.

Teachers of this major have formed distinctive research characteristics and strong strength in the long-term research process. Southwest karst area with Guizhou as the center has the largest area, the strongest karst development, the most landscape types, the most complex environment, the sharpest contradiction between man and land, serious vegetation degradation, strong soil erosion and serious soil erosion, which is a typical ecological fragile area. The biological measures of soil and water conservation engineering are systematically studied. During the "Sixth Five-Year Plan" and "Seventh Five-Year Plan", the projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, such as "Classification and Evaluation of Water Conservation Forests in Wujiang River Basin", "Study on Layout Structure of Water Conservation Forests in Wujiang River Basin" and "Study on Rational Structure of Agriculture, Forestry and Animal Husbandry and Forest Species Layout", won the third prize of the Ministry of Forestry for scientific and technological progress. Judging from the age structure of the teaching staff, there are no teachers over 45 years old, 7 teachers aged 45-35, accounting for 53.8%, and 6 teachers under 35, accounting for 46.2%.
