The Origin of the Dragon in the Zodiac

The dragon in the zodiac comes from the ancient primitive belief dragon totem.

There are two versions of the origin of dragon totem:

1, the dragon totem originated from the Busan symbol of the Yellow Emperor. After defeating Yandi and Chiyou, Huangdi toured around and joined Busan. This symbol combination not only unified the military symbols of various ministries and established a political alliance, but also combined some elements of the original tribal totem to create a new animal image-dragon.

2. Dragon totem originated from the evolution of snake totem. The clan with snake as totem has merged with many other totem clans one after another, forming a dragon totem with snake as the main body, including the head of a horse, the tail of a raccoon, the horn of a deer, the claws of a dog, and the scales and whiskers of a fish.

The image of the dragon

Dragon is a miraculous animal in China mythology, fickle, sexually stimulating and beneficial to all things. It is said that it can be hidden and displayed, reaching the sky in the spring breeze and diving in the autumn wind. It can also cause clouds and rain. It was the leader of many scales, the head of the four spirits (dragon, phoenix, unicorn and turtle), and later became a symbol of imperial power. Emperors all claimed to be dragons, and their vessels were decorated with dragons.

The most basic feature of the dragon image is "nine similarities", and these nine animals are still controversial. Legend has it that it can be hidden, detailed and huge, short and long. The vernal equinox ascends to the sky, the autumnal equinox dives into the deep, and it calls for rain, and these are the images of dragons developed in the later period, which are more complicated than the original dragons.
