History of the Development of Chinese Animated Films

The development of Chinese animated films has gone through a process from boom to bust.

Domestic animation with traditional Chinese culture as the main theme used to enjoy a high reputation in the international arena.

In the 1950s and 1960s, there were classic Chinese animated films such as "Pandemonium in Heaven", "Nezha in the Sea" and "The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea"; and in the 1980s, excellent works such as "Sheriff of the Black Cat" and "Huluwa" accompanied a generation of people through their childhood.

Paper-cutting, ink, puppets and other forms of expression not only have a distinctive Chinese national character, but also make the domestic animated films in the technical gradually mature.

Since the founding of the country in 1949, China **** has 36 animated films have won nearly 60 awards of various sizes internationally.

"Chinese animation started almost simultaneously with the development of world animation and created our own national animation from the very beginning, instead of imitating after others" (3).

However, after the reform and opening up, European, American and Japanese animation films entered in large scale and rapidly occupied the animation market in China.

Especially after the mid-1990s, with the popularity of Japanese animated films such as Dunker, Crayon Shin-chan, and Detective Conan on various TV stations in China, the audience has not only been limited to teenagers, but also a considerable number of adults aged 20-35 years old have also become loyal viewers of these animated films.

Japanese cartoons and the culture they represent have formed a huge impact in China: in elementary school, middle schools and university campuses, Ryukawa Fontaine, Xiaoxin, Conan and other animated characters have become the idols of students, and the plot of the film is one of the most important topics of their exchanges; in the field of animation and the extension of the industry, comic books, toys, audio-visual products, as well as printed with the characters of the film clothing, stationery and other commodities to form a broad market. The company's products have formed a broad market.

Domestic animation, on the other hand, has been neglected during this period. Although the relevant state departments have given some support in terms of policy, and the industry has recognized the commercial prospects of animation, domestic animation has never been able to create a lasting impact on audiences due to the conservative concepts and lack of professional talents.

After China's accession to the WTO, more foreign animated films will have an impact on domestic animation.

Domestic animation is not only able to bring rich commercial interests to China's cultural industry, but also plays an important role in promoting local culture and youth education.

Therefore, how to get out of the misunderstanding of development in the new environment full of competition and bring domestic animation into the track of benign development will be an important issue for China's cultural industry.
