The lyricist of "My Motherland and I", Zhang Qua, and the composer, Qin Yongcheng, are from the same hometown in Dalian, Liaoning province, and both of them graduated from the Northeast Lu Xun College of Literature and Art, which has inherited the glorious revolutionary tradition of the Yan'an Lu Yi. Qin Yongcheng published his debut novel "Catching Pests" at the age of fifteen in the Lvda Daily, and in 1948 he was admitted to the Guandong Social Education Troupe under the leadership of the underground party in Dalian, becoming a literary worker. 1952 he was admitted to the Music Department of the Northeast Luxun Academy of Arts (now the Shenyang Conservatory of Music), where he was carefully cultivated by the composer Li Jiao-fu and the Soviet expert Gulov, and his outstanding creative talent was revealed at an early stage. 1964, he was admitted to the Northeast Luxun Academy of Arts (now the Shenyang Conservatory of Music), and his music was published in the Dalian Daily. In 1964, just past his prime, he made a name for himself with the song "I Dedicate Oil to the Motherland", a popular melody that still resonates throughout the motherland. Subsequently, he has created "Chairman Mao walks all over the motherland", "full of affection for Beijing" and other red classic songs, after Li Jiefu, the Northeast land rising a new star in the composition.
