Generally speaking, the reform ability of police can be summarized in eight aspects: the ability to grasp and control the whole process of criminal sentence, the ability to educate criminals, the ability to organize and manage criminals, the ability to investigate the prison, the ability to psychological counseling and correction of criminals, the ability to deal with emergencies, the ability to apply the writing ability and interpersonal communication skills.

In order to improve the reform ability of the police, especially need to take the following three measures: First, increase the cultivation and training of talents. Thirdly, emphasis should be placed on improving the ability of police officers to carry out psychological correction of criminals. On the whole, among the eight reforming abilities, the ability of prison officers to carry out psychological correction of criminals is particularly lagging behind, highlighted by a lack of professional knowledge and insufficient clinical practice experience, making it difficult to excel in completing psychological diagnosis and corrective work with high professional requirements. Prison authorities should systematically train and improve police officers with a professional foundation in psychology, medicine and pedagogy, and let them settle in the supervisory line through the backbone precipitation mechanism, engaging more in clinical diagnosis and corrective treatment of criminals, and summarizing the relevant work experience in a timely manner; they should also actively create the conditions for inviting the relevant social psychologists to come to the front line of prison reform and provide education and training in the area of clinical corrective treatment of criminals to police officers.
