Background of the Book
"Stone Soup" originates from traditional European folklore, and is one of the Love Tree's World Illustrated Book Selections. In the most familiar version of the story, the soup is cooked with stones. The book is set in the country of Yes. At the same time, the author borrows from the tradition of Buddhist storytelling, in which the names of the three main characters are common in Chinese folklore: Fu, Lu and Shou - three gods who deliver health, wealth and happiness to people. Fook, lest symbolizes good fortune and prosperity; Luk, symbolizes good health, family happiness and emotional well-being; and Shou, symbolizes longevity, he brings good health and a lifetime of peace. In this story, they are incarnated as three Zen masters.
This book is written by Joan Mutter.

My Favorite Words:
Cooking smoke curls up, neighboring, quirky, weird, unbelievable, smells better and better, full of food, gurgling, cloudy,
My Favorite Sentences:
1. One spring morning, with the wind blowing warmly and the willows clinging to each other, the villagers gathered by the riverside to give the monks a farewell. to see the monks off.
2. Everyone sat down to eat together. It had been so long since they had feasted together that no one could even remember if there had ever been such a feast before. (How happy they were!)
3. "Thank you," said the villagers, "you have brought gifts that we can never enjoy enough. You have taught us that sharing makes one richer."
The Story
The story goes to three monks who come to a village where the villagers have suffered so much, from famine, floods, and wars, that the villagers are physically and mentally exhausted, and they don't trust strangers or want to accept anyone. When the three Masters entered the village, the villagers closed their doors and windows tightly. They knocked on door after door, house after house, but the result was the same, they did not welcome the three monks.
The monks said, "These people don't know what happiness is." So they came up with a solution - to cook stone soup. The monks began to cook the soup, and for a moment the smoke rose. Villagers have poked their heads out, that pile of fire, that cauldron, supported in the middle of the village, really strange! Villagers one by one out of the door, want to see the stone soup in the end how to cook.
In the need for spices and food, the villagers have held things from their own homes, salt, pepper, carrots, fresh mushrooms, noodles, cabbage, tofu, taro, garlic, ginger, winter melon ...... everyone was busy and happy! The soup also became more and more fragrant, and the ingredients in the soup became richer and richer! When the soup was ready, the whole village sat down and ate it happily; they had never had such a merry feast before. After the feast, they told stories and sang songs and acted out shadow puppets until late at night. The monks used the method of cooking stone soup to give the villagers a lot of happiness and to teach them the truth that the more you give the more you get back. The monks said, "Happiness is as simple as cooking stone soup."
My experience:
The villagers here had no confidence in the world, no more enthusiasm for life, let alone interacting with strangers, and neighbors were suspicious of each other and had no trust. But the three monks made everyone open their hearts to give by cooking stone soup, and when one person gave, the others gave more. After reading this story I realized that sharing makes people richer, the story makes us know how to share, happiness is as simple as cooking stone soup!
The watercolor paintings in the book are also very beautiful! When the three monks supported the pot to the middle of the village, when the fragrance wafted out, you see, every window stretched out their heads to see what happened! I also especially like to see the whole village sitting together to eat, big red lanterns hanging high, people laughing together, this scene looks so cozy ah! We have eaten a meal have played the erhu, have played shadow, we spend the happiest time together ...... The pictures and stories in the book give people a beautiful enjoyment, but also let us understand a lot of truth! Children, quickly come to read it!
