Advantages and disadvantages of rear wheel steering
1, the advantage of rear wheel steering is that it can improve stability, improve maneuverability and reduce turning radius. The shortcomings are also obvious. One more set of steering requires more mechanical parts.
2. Moreover, many car companies have not produced follow-up products, which means that when these mechanical parts are damaged, it is not easy to find original parts in the after-sales market;
3. Traditional steering system has its own advantages, such as reliable steering and low failure rate. At the same time, there are some disadvantages, that is, if the steering transmission ratio is large, the vehicle will turn more easily at low speed, but it will be too sensitive at high speed and the steering stability will become worse. On the contrary, if the steering ratio is small, the vehicle turns smoothly at high speed, but it is difficult to turn at low speed. After assembling EpS (Electronic Power Steering System) on the traditional steering system, the above problems have been greatly improved. With the help of EpS, the vehicle can get more power at low speed and make the steering light; However, at high speed, the steering assistance is reduced, thus increasing the steering stability of the vehicle. However, due to the influence of vehicle speed and road conditions, it often causes the problem of understeer or oversteer when turning, thus causing great danger. For experienced drivers, the danger can be avoided by correcting the steering angle; For the average driver, it's a bit overwhelming.
Adding the rear wheel steering system can make up for the influence of the increased wheelbase on the driving characteristics of the vehicle, and a luxury car can also have good driving pleasure. The principle of this active rear wheel steering system is not complicated, and its main component is a set of lead screw and nut mechanism. The motor drives the nut to drive the screw to move axially, which will drive the rear wheel to rotate slightly. When the vehicle speed is above 60km/h, the rear wheel and the front wheel will deflect in the same direction, improving the stability of high-speed cornering. When it is lower than 60km/h, it deflects in the opposite direction, which increases the flexibility of the vehicle. In this way, the integrated active steering system can make steering easier whether it is a sharp turn or parking in the parking lot. When driving at low speed, the rear wheel can turn in the opposite direction to the front wheel to reduce the turning radius and ensure accurate cornering every time.
