Chen Tingru's life story

In late August 2015, Chen Tingru, an elderly man, was interviewed by a reporter from the PLA Daily.

At the end of August 2015, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary parade of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, a reporter from the military newspaper had the honor of interviewing the old man who had been baptized by the fire of war. Talking about the bittersweet history, he said he must remember - "the lesson that backwardness is to be beaten."

Chen Tingru's home is located in the southeast corner of the ancient city of Gusu, the courtyard is not large, covered with flowers and plants bonsai, patchwork, well organized. It is full of lush greenery, which instantly washes away the summer heat and gives people a sense of tranquility and comfort.

Chen is a medium-sized man, a little thin, elegant, smiling and laughing. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed that a 100-year-old man who had been through the war could have such a healthy body.

As the oldest veteran of the war, what is the story of Chen? The conversation naturally opens up from the war that decided the survival of the Chinese nation more than 70 years ago.

Japanese devils came, the elementary school principal can not be

January 1914, Chen Tingru was born in Lianshui County, north of Jiangsu Province, Huji District, Jiang stack village, a poor peasant family. Because of his father's early death, the family has many siblings, life is difficult, Chen Tingru was passed on to his uncle as a son.

Chen Tingru's uncle was very fond of Chen Tingru who was very smart and clever, and he saved money to pay for him to attend private school to study and learn culture in the hope that he would be able to excel in the future.

"I said I was a principal, but I didn't have any soldiers under me, and I was both a principal and a teacher at the same time." Talking about the experience of being a principal, immersed in memories, Chen Lao smiled, "I love this teaching profession, and like to be with the students. It was a fulfilling and happy time."

Unfortunately, when the principal time is not long, Japan blatantly launched a full-scale war of aggression against China, the constant news of the fall of the country, the people's homes broken, the young Chen Tingru was heartbroken, and at the same time also felt the pain of a scholar, no way to serve the country.

Because of the KMT government's strategy of non-resistance, the national army was retreating, and soon the flames of war reached Chen Tingru's hometown. The Japanese army traveled all the way south from Lianyungang, encountering little fierce resistance, and in the early spring of 1939, the city of Lianshui County fell. In the era of war and chaos, many students fled with their parents, and Chen Tingru had no desire to teach. At this time, the education department of Lianshui County of the national government removed him as a principal on the grounds that he was not concentrating on his work.

"What's the point of talking about working well when the country is going to perish?" Chen Lao said, "It's good to be removed from his post, just so that he can have a quiet moment to think about what to do in the future."

Not a slave of the country, resolutely participate in the party's underground anti-Japanese forces

The ferocity of the Japanese army, coupled with the national government does not front resistance, so that many people can not see the hope of the country, many people left their hometowns fleeing back to the rear of the country. At first, Chen Tingru also had the idea of retreating to the rear to make a living. But the strong inner pain of not wanting to be a slave of the country eventually dispelled this negative thought of his. "If you don't resist the Japanese, you won't have a good life, and if you don't resist the Japanese, you'll have to be a perished slave!"

An anti-Japanese guerrilla force appeared in the Liandong area at this time. It was an armed anti-Japanese team of 30 people. Only later did Chen Tingru know that this team was an independent anti-Japanese squadron under the leadership of the ****productivity party, which was formed by our party using a 30-member district security team quota under a progressive-minded district chief of the Kuomintang, and its main task was to propagandize anti-Japanese and salvation in the enemy-occupied areas and to organize the masses to fight against the Japanese. The squadron was inactive during the day, but at night, it systematically went to remote villages to propagate anti-Japanese ideas to the masses and teach anti-Japanese songs.

After listening to the Party's anti-Japanese propaganda, Chen Tingru was greatly touched, understood a lot of truth, and underwent a great change in his thinking. Later, he studied Chairman Mao's theory of "On the Long War" and felt that organizing the masses to fight the war as a whole was a feasible way, thus seeing the hope of anti-Japanese salvation.

"No one wants to be a slave, the people's determination to fight against the Japanese is the same, and there is great potential for organizing the masses to carry out anti-Japanese struggle behind enemy lines." Chen Tingru decided to join the party's anti-Japanese armed organizations, and because of his high level of education, he soon became the backbone of anti-Japanese propaganda.

Remembering the experience of underground anti-Japanese propaganda, Chen said, "We usually moved to a village at night, and sent sent out sentries to block all the entrances and exits of the village, only allowing people to come in and out, so as to prevent leakage of information from the enemy's sneak attack."

Chen said he taught many anti-Japanese progressive songs to the masses, many of which he can't remember now, but at the mention of the famous "Big Sword March," Chen still can't help but hum "Big Sword to the heads of the devils to chop ......"

Chen Tingru also quickly grew up to be a base captain, squadron leader, and commander of the general unit's seventh company. 1942, Chen Tingru honorably joined the Chinese ****anufacturing party. Soon after, he was appointed as the secretary of the district committee and district chief of Li Ji district, the burden on his shoulders is heavier.

The Japanese and pseudo-army were repeatedly attacked by the guerrillas of the New Fourth Army, and the traitors were often secretly suppressed. The Japanese and Pseudo-Army, who had suffered losses, regarded them as thorns in their side and thorns in their flesh. Chen Tingru, who was the district chief of the New Fourth Army, naturally became a key target of the Japanese and pseudo forces.

On several occasions, the ghosts swept through the countryside, taking Chen Tingru's village as a key target. But because of the New Fourth Army's precautions, coupled with the high vigilance of the masses, the ghosts, although raging, but they were all empty and returned.

One morning in the spring of 1943, Chen Tingru was not in the village on official business. The Japanese and pseudo-army of more than 200 people in the traitor's lead, quietly touched into the village, and soon surrounded the village. A group of enemies went straight to Chen Tingru's house and savagely kicked open the door of the courtyard, searching for and arresting the cadres of the New Fourth Army. Although Chen Tingru was lucky to escape, his uncle was brutally killed by the enemy on the spot, and several militiamen were taken captive by the enemy and brutally massacred by the Japanese army soon after.

Chen Tingru, who got the news, was incredibly sad, remembering that his uncle was like a father to him, he couldn't help but cry ......

Following the army all the way to the south, the cause of the love of the double harvest

August 1945, the Japanese announced the unconditional surrender of the Chinese people to achieve a great victory in the war of resistance. The Chinese people achieved a great victory in the war of resistance.

Because information was extremely closed in the countryside at the time, a few days had passed by when Chen Tingru got the news of the war victory. "The guys were particularly happy, although the conditions were limited did not engage in a grand celebration ceremony, but remembered that along the way, braved the rain of bullets, sacrificed countless martyrs, and finally achieved victory, of course happy!" Mentioning the scene when he was informed of the announcement of Japan's unconditional surrender, Chen was overflowing with excitement.

According to Chen's recollection, "On the eve of the victory of the war, we often saw American allied planes flying overhead to carry out bombing missions in the direction of Japan, and we knew that the situation of the war had been fundamentally reversed, and the Japanese and pseudo-Japanese armies were just like grasshoppers in the autumn, and they could not jump up and down for a few more days."

After the victory in the war, Chen Tingru's unit was integrated into the North Jiangsu Corps of the East China Field Army, and he successively served as the secretary of the Political Department of the North Jiangsu Corps and the secretary of the Political Department of the Tenth Corps, and took part in major battles of the War of Liberation such as the Battle of Huaihai, the Battle of the River Crossing, the liberation of Shanghai, the liberation of Fujian, and the artillery bombardment of the Golden Gate. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he successively served as deputy director of the Liberation Front Newspaper of the Political Department of the Fuzhou Military Region, deputy director of the Party Committee Office of the Fuzhou Military Region, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Political Department of the Fuzhou Military Region, deputy political commissar of the Putian Military Sub-district, and advisor of the Fuzhou Police Reserve District, and he was awarded the Third Class Medal of the Order of Freedom of Independence, the Third Class Medal of the Order of Liberation of the People's Republic of China in 1955, and the Medal of Honor of the Order of Independence of the Military Order of the People's Republic of China in 1988. Medal of Honor.

While working in the organ of the Political Department of Fuzhou Military Region, Cheng Bizhen, an intelligent and beautiful Suzhou girl and female cadre, fell in love with Chen Tingru without any hesitation. They fell in love, got married, had children, and were together for more than 60 years.

In 1981, Chen Tingru retired and returned to the "paradise" of Suzhou with his wife to recuperate. One of them loved calligraphy, the other loved painting, the harmony of the qin and sepulchre, husband and wife, enjoying a peaceful old age. They live a simple life, enthusiastic about public welfare, concerned about the growth of the next generation, and often give young students to talk about revolutionary traditions.

Talking about the biting history, Chen said, "The loss of the war against Japan is too great, young people should remember history, remember the lesson that backwardness will be beaten, and strive to revitalize China!"

Chen Lao, go well!
