What is Organic Chemistry
Organic chemistry, also known as the chemistry of carbon compounds, is the study of the structure, properties, and preparation of organic compounds, and is an extremely important branch of chemistry. Carbon-containing compounds are called organic compounds because chemists in the past believed that carbon-containing substances must be made by living organisms (organisms); however, in 1828, the German chemist Friedrich Wiehle successfully synthesized urea (a biological molecule) in the laboratory, and since then, organic chemistry has been broadened from its traditionally defined scope to include the chemistry of carbon-containing substances.
