The method of making lanterns

The manufacture of lanterns is divided into the following steps:

The first step is to prepare the required materials, including cardboard (19*475px, 350g), soft writing paper (18* 1325px, 80g), canned candles, fine iron wire, glue or double-sided tape (double-sided tape is better), snap buttons, and so on.

Step 2, draw a reference line on the cardboard as shown in the figure to make the top cover of the lampshade. ?

Step 3: Cut out the solid line in Figure 2, fold the dotted line and install the snap button.

Step four, take out the stationery and draw the pattern of the lampshade wall. ?

Step 5, stick the folded top cover on the painted lampshade wall.

Step 6: Make a lampshade.

Step 7: Finally, buckle the finished lampshade on the iron bar of the bracket, and a simple lantern is finished.

The principle of making lanterns:

The heated air causes airflow, which drives the axle to rotate. A lamp made according to this principle is a lantern. Lantern was invented in the Song Dynasty at the latest. When Wu's Meng Lianglu mentioned the night market in Lin 'an, the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty, he pointed out that some of them bought and sold lanterns.

In a square or round paper lantern, an iron wire is inserted as a vertical shaft, an impeller is installed above the shaft, two crossed thin iron wires are installed in the center of the shaft, and paper-cuts of people and horses are attached to both ends of the iron wires. After the candle in the lantern is lit, the hot air rises to form an airflow, which drives the impeller to rotate, so the paper-cut rotates with the axle.

Their shadows are projected on the cover of lantern paper. From the outside, it became the situation of "horses and chariots galloping around" in the book "Yanjing Age" in the late Qing Dynasty. Although the lantern is a toy, it is exactly the same as the principle of modern gas turbine.
