It's also called the New Year Tasting Festival. Due to the different maturity of Gu Mi, the festival dates are also different. Generally, when the rice is about to ripen, the men at home pick a small amount of ears of grain from the field, put them in a retort, and steam them with glutinous rice to worship their ancestors. In Wangmo, Ceheng and other places, new glutinous rice is taken, cooked and dried, shelled, and then steamed into glutinous rice with boiling water. In Buyi language, it is called "Genjin."

The musical instruments commonly used by Buyi people are suona, Qin Yue, Huluqin, Zhu Qin, Bala, Xiao Jie, Tonggu and Niuguhu. Tonggu is the oldest and most national musical instrument of Buyi nationality. It's all made of bronze, and the drum body is cast with various patterns.

Before 1950, almost every village had bronze drums, and grand festivals were bound to be played for fun. For funerals and sacrifices, only Mo Gong can beat bronze drums according to ritual procedures.

Buyi local operas are popular in Guiyang, Changshun, Ceheng and other counties in southwest Guizhou, and many performances are organized during the Spring Festival. There is a special troupe, and the masks of the actors are mostly the figures of the Three Kingdoms and Mr. Buyimo.
