The Origin of Ding Sheng Cake

Ding Sheng Cake was specially made by people in the Southern Song Dynasty for Han Jiajun to go out to inspire soldiers. The word "Ding Sheng" was written on the cake, which was later called "Ding Sheng Cake". Another legend is that after the Southern Song Dynasty made Hangzhou its capital, Yue Fei led troops to defend the country many times, and the people of Hangzhou sent Ding Sheng cakes along the way, hoping to return home in triumph. This is the true story of Yue Fei and Ding Sheng's cakes, which have been handed down for thousands of years.

Ding Sheng cake is a traditional cake in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, which belongs to the Soviet-style cake. Its color is reddish, soft and fragrant, with sweet bean paste flavor.

According to the elders, in the Tang Dynasty, the government of Changshu stipulated that the cakes on the market should be measured, and one liter of rice should be made into ten cakes, about one or two, which is called "Ding Sheng cakes".

In order to make a big cake or two, Changshu people are lucky enough to please officials. Later, they came up with an excellent method: carving pears into containers of various flowers and leaves, just filling one or two wet rice noodles, and mixing the juice of various flowers and vegetables with water mixed with rice noodles.

There are red, yellow and green ones. The container has a big mouth and a small bottom, so it is easy to pour out. Patterns include half peach, morning glory, plum blossom, thread board, pyramid, five stars and so on. After pouring out, put it into a steamer, steam it, bake it with fire, cover it with red seal, and name it "Ding Sheng Cake".

In the Ming Dynasty, when there were more and more wars, people gave "Ding Sheng Cake" as dry food to the able-bodied men and named it "Ding Sheng Cake".

From "Ding Sheng Cake" to "Ding Sheng Cake" and then to "Ding Sheng Cake", although the tone has not changed, the meaning is gradual. It is said that there was a time when "Ding Shenggao" and "Gao Sheng firecrackers" were given to officials, meaning "definitely Gao Sheng".
