The story of the origin of China traditional festival "New Year's Eve"

In folklore a long time ago, the night before New Year's Day, that is, the last day of the lunar calendar (Lunar New Year's Eve) every year, an extremely ferocious beast named Xi appeared. It has a horn on its head and a four-legged body. It is both terrible and fierce.

Later, it happened that Xi was very afraid of red and loud noise, so the villagers came up with a good idea. In the future, every household will post Spring Festival couplets and set off firecrackers, so as to scare it away.

This method really worked. The villagers expelled Xi Nian and people had a peaceful year. This day is called New Year's Eve because the wild animals at night are deleted.

The New Year's Eve Festival evolved from the pre-Qin period. The so-called "banishment from the army" means that the ancients used drums to drive out the "epidemic ghosts" on the day before the New Year. According to the textual research of Lu Chunqiu and Dong Jiji, "banishment from the army" is the origin of the "New Year's Eve" festival.
