Why should we eat cold food at the Cold Food Festival?

Cold food is eaten at the Cold Food Festival to commemorate meson push.

At the Cold Food Festival, people in southern Shanxi eat cold noodles, cold noodles and cold cakes. In northern Shanxi, people are used to cooking (that is, steaming cakes or white flour, cutting them into dice-sized cubes, and then frying them in clay and yellow) as food for the Cold Food Festival. Some mountain families eat fried noodles today (that is, stir-fry whole grains, mix all kinds of dried fruits and grind them into noodles).

It is said that during the exile of Duke Jinwen, Xie Ziti cut off his shares to satisfy his hunger. Jin Wengong returned to China as a monarch. He was divided into several officials. Unwilling to repay his kindness, he lived in seclusion with his mother in Mianshan.

Later, Jin Wengong went to Mianshan to congratulate Jiezitui who didn't want to be an official. Jin Wengong avoided the mountains and set Yamakaji free. Originally meant to force mesons to appear. As a result, meson tui was burned to death under the big willow tree holding her mother. To commemorate this loyal man, Jin Wengong ordered Jietui to eat cold food before he died, instead of cooking with a fire. This is the so-called Cold Food Festival.
