The Origin of English Composition in Peking Opera
Peking Opera, China's "national quintessence" and national drama, has a history of more than 200 years and enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. It was established in Beijing. According to legend, during the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, Qianlong was very interested in local operas. 1790, in order to celebrate his 80th birthday, Gan Long called local theaters to perform for him, and four Anhui people stayed in Beijing after the celebration. 1828, a Hubei troupe came to Beijing. Since then, these troupes have often performed together. Later, the two troupes gradually formed a new form of drama called Peking Opera. It was very popular in the 1930s and 1940s. Today, it is the representative of contemporary China Han drama and world-class drama.
