Two forms of note novels in the Six Dynasties

Notebook novels can be divided into human novels and strange novels.

The novel of Zhi Ren is one of China's classical novels, which refers to a kind of miscellaneous novel popular in Wei, Jin and Six Dynasties, focusing on characters' words and deeds and recording anecdotes of historical figures. Shi Shuo Xin Yu, written by Liu Yiqing in Song Dynasty, is a representative novel of Zhi Ren.

The mystery novel is one of China's classical novels, which mainly tells the stories and legends of immortals and ghosts. They came into being and prevailed in the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, and were directly related to the religious superstition, metaphysics and the spread of Buddhism and Taoism in the society at that time. Although religious superstitions are expressed in many mystery novels, some positive folk stories and legends have been preserved. Gan Bao's Search for the Gods in the Eastern Jin Dynasty is a masterpiece of strange novels.
