According to the above-mentioned functional adjustment, the main responsibilities of the State Education Bureau are:

(a) to fully implement the educational principles, policies and regulations of the party and the state, study and formulate specific principles and policies for ethnic education and organize their implementation.

According to the growth principle of education funds determined by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council, the province and the state, monitor the collection and use of education funds in all districts and counties (prefectures), and manage the funds and state-owned assets of national education capital construction and affiliated educational institutions according to relevant regulations; Guide the work-study program and school-run industrial work within the national education system.

(eight) responsible for the management, coordination and guidance of the foreign affairs of the education system; Responsible for reviewing overseas students with college education or above; Responsible for coordinating educational exchanges with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

(nine) to be responsible for the labor wages, personnel deployment, staffing management and assessment management of leading cadres in the organs and departments of the State Education Bureau; To guide the ideological and political work and spirit of the national education system.

(ten) to guide the ideological and moral education, sports health art education and national defense education in schools of all levels and types throughout the country.

(eleven) to organize and guide ethnic education, scientific research and teaching research; To guide the research of educational theory and the work of educational society.

(twelve) on behalf of the government to manage the national government education supervision office, responsible for education supervision and evaluation. To supervise and guide the education work of people's governments at lower levels, education administrative departments at lower levels and schools.

(thirteen) responsible for the statistical analysis of educational information in the national education system and the development and construction of information systems.

(fourteen) to undertake the specific work of the State Language Committee.
