What is Conservative Politics in Britain
Fundamental Characteristics
Conservatism is a philosophical view of human nature as flawed, and a belief that social ills can be mitigated rather than eradicated. Conservatism is centered on the rejection of all radical revolutions and innovations, and advocates political moderation and the use of compromise to reconcile the conflicting interests of various social forces. Conservatism views the state as an organism in which the parts cannot survive without the whole; inequalities of status and property are natural, and the leadership of a society should belong to the best qualified sages rather than to the leaders of the masses. Conservatism emphasized law and order, which represented continuity and stability, and the preservation of traditional social bonds such as family, ethics, and religion. It mainly represents the interests of the upper classes, such as the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie, while reflecting, to some extent, the demands of conservative elements in other classes or strata, such as peasants, freelancers, intellectuals, workers, and the unemployed.
