What types of calligraphy are there?

The types of calligraphy include: seal script, official script, regular script, running script, and cursive script.

Official script: Official script is also called Han Li. It is a common and solemn font in Chinese characters. The writing effect is slightly wider and flat, with long horizontal strokes and short straight strokes. It is in a rectangular shape and pays attention to "silkworm head and wild goose tail" and "twists and turns".

Official script originated in the Qin Dynasty and was compiled by Cheng Miao. It reached its peak during the Eastern Han Dynasty and had a profound influence on later calligraphy.

Calligraphy fonts Calligraphy fonts are the classification of calligraphy styles.

Traditionally speaking, there are five types of calligraphy fonts: running script fonts, cursive script fonts, official script fonts, seal script fonts and regular script fonts, which are five major categories.

Each major category is subdivided into several smaller categories. For example, seal script is divided into large seal script and small seal script, regular script is divided into Wei Bei and Tang Kai script, and cursive script is divided into Zhang Cao, Jin Cao and Kuang Cao.

Regular script was the most popular calligraphy style in my country’s feudal society from the Northern and Southern Wei to the Jin and Tang Dynasties.

Before the emergence of regular script, my country's calligraphy had produced three calligraphy styles: large seal script, small seal script and official script.

Dazhuan is relative to Xiaozhuan. Generally, all ancient characters before Xiaozhuan are collectively called Dazhuan, including oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions and the characters of the Six Kingdoms except Qin during the Warring States Period.
