What are the inspirations of six painting methods to appreciate works of art?

Chief Nanqi's book Record of Ancient Paintings mentioned:

Vivid charm, bone technique, pictographic response, color matching, quotient position, transfer, modeling.

This is what people later called the "six methods" of Chinese painting appreciation.

Vivid charm

Charm, like human temperament. A man full of poetry books and a peddler give people the impression that they have different temperaments. And this feeling is used in the description of Chinese painting, which refers to the charm.

The charm of the works reflects the author's cultural background, aesthetic tendency and creative passion, which can never be created through the study of techniques. That is to say, two painters with the same charm, regardless of faction, will give people a similar feeling. Charm is the essence of the work, and kung fu is not in technique, painting, but in life.

The spirit of a good painting is the visual and psychological influence of the comprehensive temperament of the work on the viewer. The viewer can feel the momentum of the work, either calm, cold or bold, and these feelings come from the understanding of charm.

Bone pencil

In terms of techniques, painting with a pen means sketching, stippling and brushing, while smudging and splashing ink are the techniques of "point, line and surface".

In addition to color, the basic support of painting is the three techniques of point, line and surface. The most important lines in Chinese painting are "flat, winding, round, heavy and changeable" and "thick, light, broken, accumulated (dyed), burnt and lingering", which refer to the combination of lines, such as frustration, density, speed, shade, dryness and wetness, thickness, reality and so on.

Object pictogram

This refers to the content of Chinese painting. We know that Chinese painting is divided into brushwork and freehand brushwork, meticulous brushwork and exquisite images; Freehand brushwork, freehand brushwork, pay attention to spirit likeness.

But whether it is meticulous or freehand brushwork, Chinese painting is all about meaning first. Meticulous painting is also exquisite. Is there anything in reality that really looks like the picture? Gongbi painting will never look like a photo again. Because the foundation is still similar, we will understand and unconsciously ignore this gap and think it is true. In fact, it is the painter who captures the charm of things and reproduces them.

The connotation of pictogram in Chinese painting should be compared to spirit.

A tasteful color

The use of color in Chinese painting, like "pictographs are things", does not completely pursue truth. Painters can always express what they want to highlight through the use of colors, and give the viewer tips. Elegance, brightness and detachment can all be expressed by coloring. In ink painting, it is expressed by the depth of ink color.

Commercial status

Refers to the layout of Chinese painting. Compared with western painting, Chinese painting has poor perspective and is two-dimensional plane. Only through layout can we create broad, towering, deep and quiet visual effects, which are often expressed through perspective.

This technique is unnatural, but it can give people an artistic impression and enjoyment. For example, the pictures of Luoshen, Han Xizai's banquet, Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, and all kinds of paintings depicting royal cruise ships, if expressed in perspective, will be stretched, while the method of traditional Chinese painting is quite handy.

The similarity between Chinese painting and poetry lies in the blank space in business position. This is the best way to reflect the layout of kung fu, leaving blank, so that the audience can see what is not drawn, so as to gain their own different artistic feelings through their own imagination.

Migration and writing

This refers to the inheritance of Chinese painting art techniques. As a traditional art, traditional Chinese painting is very important for predecessors' learning and self-innovation.

"Pass" is inheritance, "turn" is improvement, "model" is learning and "writing" is innovation.

Whether a painter can flexibly apply the techniques of his predecessors to his own paintings requires hard work and understanding. And a person's painting is messy, it will be regarded as "blind painting."

But only the technique, no personal style, is not a good work. Art pays attention to innovation, can't give people new ideas, can't make people shine at the moment, that's "craftsman spirit", and it will never be called everyone.

This kind of innovation must be based on tradition and cannot be created out of thin air.

If you don't understand the techniques of Chinese painting and the origin and development of techniques, you can't tell where a painting is good. The best you can say is, "It looks good, I like it."

This is mostly due to an intuition, that is, the "vivid charm" of the first of our six methods. In fact, what we feel is the temperament of the painter's personal accomplishment, value tendency and other internal qualities.

After the rise of literati painting in Song Dynasty, cultural background became the essence of Chinese painting.

The painter has a rich background, and the appreciator cannot be short of it.
