Dai peacock dance is the most famous traditional performing dance among Dai folk dances in China. It is popular in Ruili, mangshi, Xishuangbanna, Mengding, Mengda, Jinggu, Cangyuan and other places in Dehong Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, with peacock dance ("Jia Luo Yong", Dai language) in Ruili City in western Yunnan as the most representative.
Dai dance has a long history. According to legend, 1000 years ago, the Dai leader told Ma to imitate proud as a peacock's graceful posture and learn to dance. Later, people followed suit and were handed down by folk artists through the ages. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Dai leaders sent envoys to Luoyang many times to perform peacock dance, magic and acrobatics.
