Representative works of modern architecture

Representative works of modern architecture include the Villa Running Water, the Barcelona Pavilion, the Church of Longchamps, the Guggenheim Museum, the Villa Savoy, Asmara, and so on.

1, Villa Running Water

Villa Running Water is supposed to be the most classic case of architecture, and the design of this iconic building was inspired by Japanese architecture which is famous for its cantilever beams. Perfectly integrated into the natural landscape, the building was created as a weekend getaway for the Kauffman family, and then turned into a museum for architecture enthusiasts to visit.

2. Barcelona Pavilion

The design was influenced by the Bauhaus movement and features transparent walls and a cantilevered roof. Although the pavilion is small, the architects tried to use luxurious materials such as onyx, marble and travertine. This design led to the prevalence of Minimalism in architectural design.

3, Longchamps Church

Longchamps Church design has had a significant impact on the development of modern architecture, known as the 20th century's most shocking, the most expressive building. In the design of Longchamps Church, the focus is placed on the architectural shape and the feeling of the architectural form to people. It was shaped as a concrete sculpture by abandoning the traditional church model and the general approach of modern architecture.

4, the Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim Museum marketed the concept of organic architecture, envisioning mankind and the environment are closely related. The museum is composed of several geometric forms that suggest certain human ideas, moods and emotions, such as: circles for infinity; triangles for structural unity; spirals for organic progression; and squares for integrity.

5. Villa Savoy

The building, which served as an apartment for the Savoy family, is located in Poissy, on the outskirts of Paris. Its unique design reflects the "Five Points" recognized by Le Corbusier, which include an open plan, a grid of reinforced concrete columns, horizontal windows, a roof garden, and free-standing facades.

6, Asmara

In 2017, Eritrea's capital, Asmara, was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List as a city with a concentration of early modernist architecture. During construction, the authorities insisted that every pillar be supported, and no one believed that the building could withstand such a heavy load.
