What are the flavors of glutinous rice balls?
Tangyuan, also known as "Tangtuan" and "Floating Zi Yuan", is one of the representatives of Han traditional snacks. At the same time, it is also the most distinctive food in the traditional Lantern Festival in China, and it also expresses the yearning and expectation of the ancient people for a happy life.
According to legend, Tangyuan originated in the Song Dynasty. That is, black sesame seeds and pig fat are used as stuffing, a little sugar is added, and glutinous rice flour is rubbed outside to form a circle. After cooking, the taste is sweet and soft, with endless aftertaste. At the same time, glutinous rice balls symbolize family reunion, and eating glutinous rice balls also means family happiness and reunion in the New Year, so it is a must-have food for the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the first month.
The difference between Yuanxiao and Tangyuan:
Difference 1, production method
Making Yuanxiao is a little more complicated than making glutinous rice balls. Mix the stuffing first, mix it evenly, spread it into thin slices, and then cut it into small squares. Then throw the stuffing into a basket full of glutinous rice flour and roll it, sprinkling water while rolling until the stuffing hits each other and rolls into a ball. Tangyuan is made like jiaozi and jiaozi. First, add water to glutinous rice flour and knead it into a ball, and then squeeze a small ball into a circle. Then put the prepared stuffing in and knead it into a ball the size of a ping-pong ball.
Difference 2, appearance
North Lantern Festival, South Tangyuan. Because of the different practices, there are still subtle differences in appearance. Anyone who has eaten Yuanxiao and Tangyuan will know that Yuanxiao is powdery in appearance and Tangyuan is smooth in appearance. It is easy to distinguish the two.
