Batman: Arkham City - Basic Operation Chapter

If you're new to Batman: Arkham City and haven't played its predecessor, are unfamiliar with the game's fight mechanics and don't understand what's going on, or want to get out of your newbie status as soon as possible and are having trouble with some specific enemies, check out this article.

Basic Operation

Attack: left mouse button. Strike the enemy directly, you can work with the arrow keys to select the direction of the strike. Gain one combo point. After getting 5 combo points (when the combo points are shown in yellow), press the attack button at just the right time to get a bludgeoning effect.

Note: When attacking, pay attention to the enemy's movements and try to spread out your attacks rather than attacking one enemy in a row. Don't press the directional button when there are no enemies and use an attack, as you'll miss and lose your combo.

Counterattack: right mouse button. Counter enemy attacks and gain combo points as well, can only be used if the enemy has a telekinetic symbol on their head (all enemies are telekinetic!).

Note: Enemies may have 3 people attacking you at the same time, so be careful how many times you press the right button.

Enemies move slower when a white wave of electricity appears over their heads, this is your reactable time, if you press attack instead of counter after the wave appears, the movement speed will change back to normal and you will be attacked. If you press Counter Attack, the movement will return to normal and will immediately show Batman's successful counterattack on the enemy. When you're about to hit enemy A, and enemy B has an electric wave above his head and the screen goes into slow motion, press Counter Attack immediately and Batman will finish his attack and counterattack immediately. If you hesitate to press Counter Attack, Batman will be attacked by Enemy B when he hits Enemy A.

Red waves can't be countered, and yellow waves require the special skill Blade Counter (which I'll talk about in the Enemies section).

Do not press counter when there is no wave, as that will break the combo.

Jump/Roll: Spacebar. Can be used in conjunction with the arrow keys to choose a direction. You can dodge almost all attacks and can jump out of the encirclement when surrounded.

Note: When facing someone who is ready to attack you, the best way to dodge is to jump over that person's head, as that enemy will go hard and stop their attacking movement. Use this skill to try to avoid having enemies behind you.

Do not jump more than 2 times in a row, as that will break the combo.

Cloak Attack (Stun Attack): center mouse button or Q button. Stuns the enemy in front of you and won't act for a short time. Can be used 3 times in a row, and the effect of the 3rd hit can make the enemy fall to the ground.

Note: The target of 3 consecutive stun attacks will fall to the ground, so attacks used against that enemy will hit empty, so switch target strikes.

The main targets of the 3 stun attacks are titans (more on titans and other types of enemies later in the Enemies section).

Branch 1: Meteor Fist. Using an attack on a stunned target after 1 or 2 stun attacks will unleash the Meteor Punch, which mainly targets enemies wearing armor. When using Meteor Punch, watch out for the white wave on the enemy's head behind you and counterattack at any time. After counterattacking an enemy's attack, you can continue to use Meteor Punch on the stunned attack until the stunned target loses consciousness.

Branch 2: Aerial Attacks. Press space twice after 1 or 2 stun attacks to launch an aerial attack, the main target of this skill is enemies with shields. You can move the arrow keys to select another enemy to attack. Note that enemies wearing armor will defend against this move.

How can I keep dropping my combo count?

You have to make sure there are enemies present in the direction you're attacking.

Press Counter Attack only when there's a white wave of electricity; the field won't guarantee that there will be a Counter Attack wave every time period, so you don't have to wait to counter an enemy's attack.

Use jump/roll more often to move around, as running or walking for more than 1 second will break the combo count, and you can see and attack while you're rolling.

With a combo greater than 1 you can use stun attacks and normal attacks for long range attacks, and Batman will immediately dart in front of the enemy.

How can I tell when an enemy is unconscious?

If you can hear an explosion after you hit an enemy, that enemy is unconscious. Why do you need to master this technique? Because you need to know that the enemy you can see in front of you is not the last person, if there is still an enemy behind you but you misjudged, then the hit count will be zero again. You'll have to rotate your vision to see how many enemies you have, so you'll know what you're getting into.

Well, as long as you can skillfully use the basic operation mentioned above, then you can beat all the enemies in the game. (Not counting the bosses of course)
