The story about Lin Huiyin
Born in June 1904 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, he lived with his grandparents; at the age of 5, he was taught by his eldest aunt Lin Zemin; at the age of 8, he moved to Shanghai and studied at Hongkou Patriotic Primary School.
In 1916, because her father worked in the Beiyang government, her family moved to Beijing and studied at Beijing Peihua Girls' High School run by the British Church.
In April 1920, he traveled to Europe with his father and was influenced by his landlady’s female architect in London, and he determined to study architecture. During this period, she also met the poet Xu Zhimo, a disciple of her father, and developed a strong interest in new poetry.
In 1921, he returned to China with his father and continued his studies at Peihua Girls' Middle School.
In 1923, Xu Zhimo, Hu Shi and others established the Crescent Society in Beijing. Lin Huiyin often participated in the literary and artistic activities held by the Crescent Society. He once performed on stage in the Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore's poetic drama "Chitra", playing the role of The protagonist, Princess Zidra, has all her lines in English. Her fluent English and handsome appearance left a deep impression on the literary and art circles.
In June 1924, Lin Huiyin and Liang Qichao’s eldest son Liang Sicheng went to the United States to study architecture at the same time.
From 1930 to 1945, Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin traveled to 15 provinces and more than 190 counties in China, inspecting and mapping 2,738 ancient buildings. Many ancient buildings passed through Their investigation gained world and national recognition, and they have been protected since then. For example, there are Dashiqiao in Zhaozhou, Hebei, Yanfu Temple in Wuyi, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda in Shanxi, Foguang Temple in Wutai Mountain, etc. It was precisely because of several inspections of ancient buildings in Shanxi that Liang Sicheng cracked the mystery of the structure of ancient Chinese buildings and completed the interpretation of the heavenly book "Building French Style".
