What are the origins and customs of the third grade?
In the south of China, on the morning of the third day of New Year's Eve, a "red mouth" is posted. I think this day is easy to quarrel and not suitable for New Year's greetings. The so-called "red mouth" is usually a piece of red paper with a length of seven or eight inches and a width of one inch, on which are written some safe and auspicious words, and the other is placed on the garbage, picked out and thrown out. These rubbish are all piled up on the second day of the first grade, and they should be cleaned up and dumped together by the third grade. Otherwise, it is equivalent to the outflow of gold and silver at home.
2. The origin of the third day of the Lunar New Year.
On the third day of the New Year's Eve, it is also called "Xiao Nianchao". In the Qing Gulu's Ting Anne Lu Xiaonian Dynasty, it was recorded: "The third day of the first month is a small year dynasty, which is the same as the old dynasty." People also say that the third day of the Lunar New Year is also called the Year of the Pig. Since the Qin and Han Dynasties, the traditional view is that the first day of the first month is rooster day, the second day is dog day, the third day is pig day, the fourth day is sheep day, the fifth day is ox day, the sixth day is horse day and the seventh day is human day. Legend has it that this is because when Nu Wa created everything, she created six animals first and then people, so the first day to the sixth day is the day of six animals.
3. Taboos on New Year's Day and Grade Three
On the third day of New Year's Eve, also known as "Red Dog Day", it is an unlucky day to avoid paying New Year greetings. Red dogs are arrogant, and there will be evil things when they meet. Therefore, people usually stay at home on this day to avoid meeting murderers, so it is not appropriate to go out to pay New Year greetings, whether it is relatives' or friends' homes. If anything happens to this family in the future, you will be scolded for life. Of course, Dr. Zheng reminded that it also depends on local customs. For example, in some places in Jiangxi, people pay attention to the children in the first grade, the lang in the second grade and the quartet in the third grade, that is, the first grade is at the parents' home, the second grade is at the parents' home, and the third grade is at the fourth grade. However, if a family member died that year, you can't pay New Year greetings to others, and you won't accept others to pay New Year greetings.
