Changing the resistance of the voltage divider can change the current in the circuit connected to the voltage divider. In this way, the voltage divider first converts the physical displacement of the joystick into an electrical signal, and then transmits the signal to the joystick port on the computer.
This kind of electrical signal is completely analog. It is a waveform containing information changes, just like a radio signal. In order to use this information, the computer needs to convert it into digital information, that is, accurate numerical values.
