The difference between esxi rdm and pass-through sata

Differences between esxi rdm and pass-through sata:

Hard disk has two pass-through modes, namely sata pass-through and esxi rdm pass-through. The performance of rdm is slightly weak, but the storage allocation method is more flexible, which is very suitable for motherboards with few interfaces and insufficient expansibility. ?

SATA (Serial ATA) hard disk, also known as serial hard disk, is the trend of PC hard disk in the future, and has basically replaced the traditional PATA hard disk.

The full name of SATA is serial advanced technology attachment, and the serial ATA Committee composed of Intel, APT, Dell, IBM, Seagate and Maituo formally formulated the serial ATA 1.0 specification.

In 2002, although the related equipment of serial ATA has not been officially listed, the serial ATA Committee has first formulated the serial ATA 2.0 specification.

Serial ATA adopts serial connection mode, and serial ATA bus adopts embedded clock signal, which has stronger error correction ability. Compared with the past, its biggest difference is that it can check transmission instructions (not just data).

If errors are found, they will be corrected automatically, which greatly improves the reliability of data transmission. The serial interface also has the advantages of simple structure and hot plug support.

Constituting agreement:

Each SATA hard disk storage node consists of memory control interface MCI and SATA hard disk controller, as shown in figure 1. MCI is responsible for generating, encapsulating or decapsulating message packets according to the message frame format, and extracting and parsing operation commands for accessing storage nodes according to the received message packets, including initialization, setting storage node power saving mode, sleeping or waking up, reading and writing memory, etc.
