What is the difference between the way Christmas is celebrated in the United States and the United Kingdom?
The British are the most food-oriented people at Christmas, and the food includes roast pig, turkey, Christmas pudding, and Christmas mince pies. Every family member is given a gift, and servants are also given a share, and all gifts are handed out on Christmas morning. There were Christmas carolers who went from door to door singing good tidings, and they would be invited inside by their hosts to be entertained with refreshments or given small gifts.
The United States
Because the United States is a nation of many nationalities, the American celebration of Christmas is also the most complex, and immigrants from various countries still follow the customs of their native countries. However, wreaths and other chic decorations outside American doors are the same at Christmas time.
Christmas trivia:
On Dec. 25, each church holds separate worship services. The Catholic and Orthodox churches hold Christmas Masses, and the Protestant churches hold Christmas services.
Christmas Eve refers to the evening of December 24 to the morning of December 25th. The church organizes choirs (or spontaneously formed by the believers) to go from door to door and sing carols under the windows, which is called "The Annunciation", meaning a reenactment of the time when the angels reported the joyful news of Jesus' birth to the shepherds on the outskirts of Bethlehem. "The people who sing the carols are called Christmas Waits, and the event often goes on until dawn, when the numbers grow and the singing becomes louder and louder, filling the streets and alleys of the city with the sound of singing.
The hymns sung at Christmas are called "Christmas carols".
Socially
In many countries, businesses, schools, and organizations hold Christmas parties and dances in the weeks before Christmas. Some organizations also have Christmas parades, which sometimes include the story of the birth of Christ. These performances are especially common in Latin America. Some groups also have open-air caroling events, such as visiting neighbors' homes to sing Christmas songs. Sometimes people use the holidays to draw attention to human relationships, to participate in special volunteer work, or to raise money for charity.
On Christmas Day or Christmas Eve, people often prepare a sumptuous Christmas dinner, which is usually a traditional dish from their home country. In many areas, especially in Eastern Europe, people fast for a while before the family Christmas dinner. Sweets and feasts are also an important part of Christmas celebrations in many countries.
