Geographical location of China: China is located in the east of Asia and on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. It has a vast territory with a total area of about 9.6 million square kilometers, ranking third in the world and fourth in the United States, second only to Russia and Canada. Almost as big as the whole of Europe.

China's topography is high in the west and low in the east, showing a ladder-like distribution. Mountains and plateaus cover a vast area. The distance from east to west is about 5000 kilometers, and the continental coastline 18000 kilometers. The combination of temperature and precipitation is varied, forming a variety of climate.

There are 34 provincial administrative units, including 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 municipalities directly under the Central Government and 2 special administrative regions.

The outstanding characteristics of population are large population base, rapid population growth and numerous ethnic groups. Rich in resources, but relatively few per capita resources. China can be divided into four parts: northern region, southern region, northwest region and Qinghai-Tibet region.
