How many sacrifices do you need to prepare for ancestor worship?

Five kinds of sacrifices need to be prepared for ancestor worship, namely incense, vegetarian wine, chicken, paper money and pork.

1, incense sticks

Incense is one of the things that must be prepared when sweeping graves to worship ancestors. We should not only burn incense in front of our ancestors' graves, but also give incense to the land of the mountain god who is in charge of the cemetery, and pray that the land of the mountain god will bless the cemetery and the ancestors' spirits in heaven.

2, vegetarian wine

The process of sweeping the grave is equivalent to bringing food to the ancestors for the holidays, so if you want to give the ancestors wine, you must have wine when sweeping the grave. You can also use water instead, but you need to use a hip flask.

3. Chicken

Chickens are called "lucky birds". Chicken is homophonic with "auspiciousness", which means good luck. It is an auspicious animal, which plays an important role in traditional festivals and is also an indispensable tribute to God and ancestors. Different places have different ways of offering sacrifices. In some places, roosters are used for sacrifice, while in others, live or cooked chickens are used. Either way, the chicken must be whole.

4. banknotes

Paper money is very important to the ancestors of another world, which is what we call ghost money. Paper money is going to be burned to death. But now most places are not allowed to burn, and flowers are used instead (chrysanthemums, lilies and carnations). If you burn paper money, you must burn it clean, which is also very particular.

5. Pork

In ancient times, rich and powerful people paid special attention to sacrifice, so there was a saying that "three beasts sacrificed to heaven and three birds tied to the ground". Three animals refer to pigs, cattle and sheep used for sacrifice. Three birds refer to chickens, ducks and geese. Families with good conditions will prepare a whole golden pig. If they don't want to spend too much money, they can also cut a large piece of pork belly or roast pork, which can be regarded as doing their part for their ancestors.
