The Japanese economy collapsed, and people became more and more dissatisfied with tokugawa era, which also aggravated the social contradictions among the Japanese people, and finally triggered the ending of the anti-foreign movement of respecting the king. This is the economic aspect.

Militarily, Japan is completely ignorant of external military development because of its closed door policy. Shogunate soldiers are completely at a disadvantage in the confrontation with the troops of the United States and other western countries. The abdication of the shogunate also made Japan very dissatisfied, so the reformists (also royalists) led by Ito Bowen and Westminster Abbey supported "returning the power of the general state to the emperor".

Culturally, with the introduction of Christianity, a large number of missionaries entered Japan to preach. In order to establish the absolute authority of Shinto in Japan, the Japanese shogunate began to suppress the spread of Christianity in China and persecuted Christians, which also led to many incidents of Christian martyrdom. This has also intensified the contradictions in Japan and created the possibility for the future closing movement.

Finally, after fierce fighting between the Japanese reformists and the shogunate, the royalists finally occupied Edo, the capital of Japan, and Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last Japanese general (it should be him, I wrote it according to my own memory), surrendered the political power and returned it to the emperor. Emperor Meiji of Japan issued the "Five Oaths", announcing reforms and saving the foundation of the empire. Japan is also slowly becoming the most powerful capitalist country in Asia.
