How was the first human X-ray taken?
Less than a month after Roentgen discovered X-rays, Vienna Hospital tried to use X-rays to indicate the position of broken bones in human body. 1896, a professor at Columbia University in the United States clearly found from an X-ray photograph that the iron ore of a shotgun bullet was shot into the victim's hand by a hunting accident. Since then, people have further learned that X-rays have the ability to penetrate soft tissues such as muscles and photograph bones and metals buried in the human body. After decades of continuous efforts to improve and popularize the application, X-ray diagnosis has now become an essential diagnostic means in any regular hospital.
X-rays caused a sensation throughout Europe and America. Newspapers and magazines are full of horrible pictures of hands, feet and bones. LIEF, a famous American magazine, published a joking cartoon in 1896. In the upper part of the painting, three couples go to dinner gracefully, while in the lower part of the painting, the skeleton frames of these six people are drawn according to the X-ray perspective. People's ignorance of this new discovery is ridiculous.
