The most popular language tells me: how to distinguish romanticism, realism and modernism?
Romanticism, realism and modernism are the words that define art schools in literary theory. Realism is also called critical realism.
Romantic works are full of magnificent imagination and exaggeration, which can arouse people's endless reverie. For example, Li Bai, a poet in the Tang Dynasty, wrote a poem, "White hair is three thousands of feet, and sorrow is like a beard", which compares deep anxiety and anger with three thousands of feet white hairs that cannot exist in real life.
Realistic works, face reality and expose disadvantages. Du Fu, a poet in the Tang Dynasty, criticized the dark reality of feudal society with strong contrast in his poem "The wine in Zhumen stinks and the bones freeze to death on the road".
Modernist works usually use flashback, splicing, jumping, synaesthesia and other narrative methods, pay attention to psychological description, and have magical colors. For example, China modern writer Wang Meng's novel Butterfly, He Liwei's novel Bai Niao, Mo Yan's novel Transparent Carrot and so on.
