What is the treatment of sugarcane cane seed?

Sugarcane in China is mainly produced in Fujian, Guangdong, Taiwan and Sichuan. Sugarcane is a common fruit and is also used as a raw material for sugar production and ethanol manufacturing, making it highly valuable.

How to treat sugarcane seeds?

1. Sugarcane seed selection is not a one-step process. Four processes are required to select the best seed stalks, namely, selection of large plots, selection of plants at harvest, selection of time of chopping and selection of buds at planting. First, we select well-grown field canes for sowing; then we wait until harvest time to select canes that are free of pests and diseases, resistant and of good quality; then we select canes with thick stems and full buds, and check the stems for mechanical damage; after that, when planting, we check the buds of the seeds and select the seeds wisely according to the planting requirements.

2. Cane chopping Sugarcane chopping is mainly to ensure the quality of the seeds, then we need to peel off the leaf sheaths before chopping the seeds. The chopping blade should be fine, do not hesitate when chopping, so that the knife is fast and accurate, and the cut is smooth. The next step is to leave the lower part of the seedling longer and chop it into single, double, triple or multiple buds. In production, double-budded sugarcane seed is often used because of its excellent germination retention and yield.

3. After soaking the sugarcane seeds, we need to treat the sugarcane seeds. First, we need to dry the seeds to reduce some water in the seeds and then soak the seeds in water or lime water to promote the absorption of water and soaking agent. Soaking the seeds in water takes about a day to two days, while limewater soaking takes only half a day or a day. You can also prevent bromeliads by soaking them in carbendazim, or other chemicals for about ten minutes afterward before fishing them out. If you want to prevent persistent dwarf disease, you can soak the seeds in warm water, which is also excellent.

4. In order to promote the germination speed of sugarcane seeds, we usually carry out artificial germination, especially in winter and spring when the temperature is low, the germination speed of sugarcane seeds is very slow, so we have to rely on artificial germination methods. Commonly used methods are compost germination and mulching germination. These two common methods of germination are based on the principle of heat preservation and moisturization, so that germination will not affect the quality of sugarcane seeds, but of course we have to realize that after a certain period of time, the seeds have to be dug out and planted in a timely manner.
