Review of the sad film
The film is adapted from Lu Xun's short masterpiece "Sorrow". It is faithful to the spirit of the original work, reveals the different character traits of Juansheng and Zijun in the development of tragedy, and shows that in semi-feudal and semi-colonial China, individual struggle to solve the problem Apart from practical issues, intellectual issues and women's issues are actually issues of social liberation. The film has a strong lyrical color, with "Juansheng's notes" running throughout, and a large number of subjective shots such as memories, fantasies, and hallucinations appearing, making it reflect the gloomy and solemn tone of the original novel. The film won the Best Cinematography Award and the Best Editing Award (Fu Zhengyi) at the 2nd China Golden Rooster Awards in 1982; it won the 1981 Outstanding Film Award from the Ministry of Culture.
