About Ancient Fables in 50 Words

1. There was a man crossing the river in the state of Chu whose sword fell into the water from a boat. He hurriedly carved a mark on the edge of the boat, saying, "Here is where my sword fell." When the boat docked, the man went down into the water to look for his sword, following the mark carved on the edge of the boat. The boat had gone (traveled) a long way, and the sword was still in the same place and would not go with the boat. Isn't it confusing to find the sword in such a way?

2. Going out

In ancient times, there were two brothers who went out with a suitcase each. Along the way, the weight of the suitcases weighed them down and they couldn't breathe. They had to switch to the right hand when their left hand got tired, and to the left hand when their right hand got tired. Suddenly, the elder brother stopped, bought a flat stretcher by the roadside, and hung the two suitcases on the stretcher on the left and on the right. He picked up the two suitcases on the road, and in turn felt much more relaxed.

It may be a bit of a stretch to link these two stories together, but they do share a striking similarity: the young soldier and his brother in the story were lucky, but even luckier were the captain and the elder brother in the story, for they helped themselves as they helped others!
