You didn't go to Kashgar and see the Gao Tai residence, but it was abandoned 600 years ago? Tourist: Sorry.

If you travel to Xinjiang and have never been to Kashgar, then you have never really been to Xinjiang; If you travel to Kashgar without really going to Gaotai dwellings, then you have never been to Kashgar. I saw such a passage a long time ago, which made me full of yearning for the high-rise residential buildings in Kashgar. But this time when I really set foot on this land, I found that it was not what I expected.

Kashgar, as a border city in Xinjiang and even the whole country, retains the purest customs of the western regions, and also has the strongest and most authentic history and customs of Xinjiang Uygur minority, which has been well developed and continued here. As the saying goes, "Northern Xinjiang sees the scenery, while southern Xinjiang sees the culture", it's perfect to come to Kashgar to experience the exotic customs here.

The ideal place to understand Kashgar's humanities is naturally a walk in the old city of Kashgar, which can be said to be the living history of Kashgar. But the ancient city of Kashgar that we see now is more of a new "ancient city" built later to cater to tourists. As the imprint of local people's life in Kashgar, the ancient city is a residential building in Gao Tai, which is opposite to the present "Ancient City of Kashgar", and it can be said to be a living "Uygur Folk Museum". Here, you can learn more about the folk culture of Kashgar and even the whole of Xinjiang, and see what the real Uygur folk houses are like.

In fact, this old city is unique in the city. It is completely different from the modern high-rise buildings and shopping centers next to it. At a glance, you can see a shabby house towering. It's like a huge abandoned building block, piled here at will.

Some incomplete remains can be seen from the second floor of the ancient city of Kashgar today. After more than 600 years of history and years of tempering, some houses have collapsed, and some houses have not been partially covered, and they have been "patched up" by dirt and other items, which are seriously damaged and can no longer see the glory of the past.

Take a close walk, you can see that the loose soil has been completely desertified, and the shoes have been covered with a thick layer of sand after a few steps. There are some odds and ends of weeds scattered around, which have been cleaned for a long time. They grow wildly in these barren sands, showing tenacious vitality. This may be like the locals. Even on barren land, it can take root and sprout here, which embodies the vitality of a nation.

But because there are too many dangerous buildings in this high-rise residential building, from many data and pictures, many houses here have been damaged. In order to prevent collapse, many houses are supported by wood to survive here. However, in order to put an end to these security risks and ensure the safety of the people inside, the entire residential building in Gao Tai has been completely blocked, and the residents inside have also been moved to the outside houses to live. We walked around the residential building in Gao Tai, but we couldn't find the entrance, so we couldn't continue to explore.

It is hard for you to imagine such a place that once clung to the forefront of the Silk Road. Once so prosperous, it left many glories and memories on this loess cliff, but now it has become a "forgotten corner", without sound and fireworks.

When we left, we still felt very sorry that we didn't see this living history with our own eyes and didn't know what the future fate of this place would be like. Is it still becoming that "living history"? Or transform it into a commercial tourist attraction? Everything is unknown. Each of us hopes that this "living" history can really go on with us. What we hope to repair is to ensure its safety and let it appear in front of us again with the truest face.
