Why does the brown bear, known as the "golden captain", like to rob tombs?
But in Russia, a pair of brown bears are also engaged in "touching the gold captain." What's going on here? Let's briefly restore the incident and the reason why its brown bear "robbed the tomb".
Brown bear "robbing the tomb"? 2065438+July 2008, Pavel Korotaev, a father of kamchatka peninsula, Russia, still didn't get over the grief of "the white-haired man sent the black-haired man" (his child died for some reason). On this day, he went to sweep the children's graves. When he arrived at the cemetery, he was shocked by what he saw: the whole cemetery had traces of being turned over, more than 20 graves had been dug up, and bones were everywhere, and some bones had even been bitten off.
Seeing this scene, Croft quickly called the police. After investigating the scene, the police ruled out the suspicion of grave robbers, because there were no footprints beside the destroyed grave, but there were many huge footprints. Combined with the hair identification found at the scene, it is found that the "grave robber" should be a brown bear.
After that, the police invited several famous local hunters. The hunters finally found two brown bears robbing the tomb 5 kilometers away from the cemetery through footprints. In order not to alarm the brown bears, the hunter decided to set a trap when they went out for food again, and annihilated the two brown bears in one fell swoop. Finally, the two brown bears were successfully killed by hunters.
Coincidentally, in August 2065438+2009, according to the British "Mirror" report, a grave robbery happened in a cemetery in amur river, and the body of a man who had just been buried disappeared mysteriously. According to the local police investigation, the "grave robber" is also a brown bear. Different from the above two brown bears, this brown bear was shot by an ambush when he returned to the cemetery to prepare for "grave robbery".
Why are brown bears addicted to grave robbery? Grave robbers rob graves for funerary objects, but these funerary objects are worthless in the eyes of brown bears. On the contrary, the buried person is "valuable" to the brown bear.
First of all, as a carnivore, brown bears have a very diverse diet, and there is almost nothing they don't eat. Whether it is fresh meat, plants or fruits, they are all in their recipes, even carrion, and brown bears will not let go. Therefore, there are actually two reasons why brown bears go to the cemetery: first, they are attracted by the tributes placed by people; Second, attracted by the buried people.
Secondly, some friends will say: cremation is popular now, where did you get the remains? Indeed, at present, both rural and urban areas in China have basically implemented comprehensive cremation. But unlike Russia, in ancient times, Russia mainly used cremation, but after the introduction of Christianity, it was changed to burial. Although cremation is practiced in all cities in Russia with the development of the times, burial is still the main way in rural areas and small towns.
Brown bear is an animal with a keen sense of smell. Among the known animals, the brown bear is considered to have the best sense of smell in the world, because its number of olfactory cells is three times that of hounds and 2000 times that of humans. Because of this, the brown bear can smell the smell within the range of Fiona Fang1-2km. Therefore, these brown bears entering the cemetery are attracted by the smell of people buried underground.
Since the brown bear was attracted by the smell of buried people, why did it only destroy part of the grave? In the above two incidents, only some graves in two cemeteries were damaged, and only one grave in the second cemetery was damaged. Why? There are two main reasons:
First: the burial time. Buried people will go through a natural decomposition process. The longer it is buried, the less it smells, which is why the graves chosen by Brown Bear are all recently buried people.
Second: Buried depth. In the first incident, the researchers found that some newly built graves were not destroyed. By visiting the family members of the tomb owners, they found a problem: the burial depth of these tombs damaged by brown bears is no more than 1.5 meters, while those that have not been visited are either old or buried at 1.5-2 meters. That is to say, when the buried depth is less than 1.5 m, the smell is easy to overflow, while when it is greater than 1.5 m, the smell will hardly be emitted.
To sum up, Brown Bear's title of "touching gold as captain" is only applicable in Russia at present. The reason why brown bears rob graves in Russia is that burial is still carried out in rural areas of Russia. As a scavenger, brown bears will be attracted by the smell of carrion. Therefore, brown bears don't like to rob graves, but they like to eat meat. Their keen sense of smell also gives a "lesson" to those who are too lazy to dig graves deeper.
