What is the general situation of Nu nationality?
There are about 27,000 Nu people, mainly living in Gongshan, Bijiang and Fugong counties of Yunnan Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, and a few living in Lanping and Weixi counties of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Nu people have lived on both sides of Nujiang River and Lancang River for generations, and their ancestors can be traced back to the residents who called themselves "dragons" or "Yan" in ancient Gongshan area, so they should be related to Dulong. The Nu people in the southern Bijiang area may have originated from a branch of the ancient "Luluman", so they are closely related to the Yi people. Anger language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman language family of Sino-Tibetan language family. There are three dialect areas: Gongshan, Bijiang and Fugong, which are very different and cannot communicate with each other. Due to the differences in language, origin and place of residence, Nu folk music has formed two style areas: South and North. About 40 years ago, some Nu people still had many remnants of primitive commune system, and their productivity has developed greatly in recent years. Based on farming, Nu people believe in polytheism and totem worship, and some Nu people believe in Tibetan Buddhism and Catholicism. The traditional music of Nu people belongs to the East Asian Music Department.
