How is well salt formed?

Well salt is usually deposited by inland water bodies. Zigong is a city in Sichuan Province, which is rich in well salt. It is said that the history of mining well salt here can be traced back to the Eastern Han Dynasty.

Zigong well salt originated in the Eastern Han Dynasty (76 ~ 88 AD), and manual excavation was the main method of salt mining. At that time, the output of salt was very low and the quality of salt was not ideal.

By the end of the Northern Song Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty (104 1 ~ 1048), the working people in Sichuan invented the percussion drilling technology and drilled thousands of excellent barrel wells, which made the drilling technology develop from manual excavation to mechanical drilling, greatly improving the speed of salt mining.

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the percussion drilling technology in Zigong gradually matured, forming a complete set of drilling technology. This includes: fine sinking procedure, improvement of drill bit and drilling tool, logging and deviation correction, and ingenious workover technology.
