Brief History of Niu Niang Opera
Niu Niang Opera, also known as Niu Ge Opera, is a play performed by the local people around the Spring Festival to welcome the Spring Festival and to pray for a good harvest and prosperity of the six animals.
Niu Ge Opera originated in southeastern Guangxi (mainly in Fuji County and Pingnan area), and it is one of the Han Chinese operas and plays with great folklore characteristics popular in the two regions of China and Guangdong, with the local dialect as the lyrics. Niu Ge Opera has a common language, vivid and implicit images, harmonic and mischievous; there are specific faces and costumes for different roles; and there are sung lyrics and specific musical structures. If Beijing Opera is a national treasure, then Niu Ge Opera is Guangxi's "district treasure".
