Whose work is Proverbs of Women's History and what is it?

A Historical Map of Women is the work of Gu Kaizhi, a painter in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Female history is a female official in the palace. She is always by the queen's side, recording her words and deeds at any time, and making rules and regulations that the concubines in the palace should abide by. Emperor Hui of the Western Jin Dynasty was incompetent, and the empress Jia Nanfeng was jealous, controlling and dissolute.

Therefore, Zhang Hua wrote "Proverbs of Women's History", in the form of verse, imitating the tone of women's history, and writing down the rules and proverbs of the court, which not only satirized the dissolute and violent Queen Jia, but also persuaded the court women to obey the feudal ethics.

Gu Kaizhi drew a long scroll in sections according to the history of women. However, his original work has long been lost. There are two copies of "The Picture of Female Historians", one of which is hidden in the Palace Museum in Beijing and copied by the Southern Song Dynasty. Another book, the British Museum in London, England, was copied by people in the Tang Dynasty, and now many scholars use this book to record it.

Painting value

The Picture of Women's History establishes the basic technical characteristics of Chinese painting character modeling, and the image and posture of the characters have a very unified sense of rhythm and personality characteristics. The line drawing technique used in the picture scroll is fine, dense and tough. In the history of painting, it is called "Spring Silkworm Spinning" or "Spring Clouds Floating in the Air and Running on the Ground", which not only accurately depicts the facial expressions of characters, but also gives silk a soft and elegant texture in the treatment of clothing patterns.

The long skirt sweeping the floor and the ribbon blown by the wind in the picture can show a leisurely trend on the foot-covering steps and give full play to the expressive force of line drawing modeling. Therefore, as far away as Mi Fei in the Song Dynasty and Ming and Qing Dynasties, all praised this volume for its antique, vivid brushwork and incomparable charm.
