How to choose an axe

Woodworking axe is divided into double-edged chopping axe and single-edged woodworking axe. Chopping axe is mainly used to cut trees and firewood, with the axe blade in the middle. The edge of the woodworking axe is on the left, which is used to cut wood. When we choose a woodworking axe, we should first look at its shape. The shape should be geometric, with clear lines and beautiful appearance.

The second step is to look at its structure and steel mouth. To choose a steel structure, that is, iron on one side and tool steel on the other, forge together, and steel and iron should have a clear dividing line. It takes a lot of manpower to make the steel axe, which is costly and expensive. Steel-bonded tools are sharp, durable and easy to grind. It is easy to use and is an ideal hand tool. Axes made now are often made of all steel (usually spring steel), which is simple to make and low in price. It can be sharp, but its toughness and grindability are often not ideal.

Step three, look at its axe eye. Axe eye length should not be less than 28mm, width should not be less than 10mm, hole wall should be straight. Never choose a hole wall that is concave inside and narrow outside (commonly known as "concave belly") and convex in the center of the axe eye (commonly known as "chicken heart").

Well, having said so much about how to choose a good axe, I think everyone has a steelyard in mind. Theory is not as good as practice. Just go to the market and see more.
