How does the cross plate shear test work?
The indoor shear strength test requires the acquisition of in-situ soil samples, but the accuracy of the indoor test results is affected by the inevitable disturbance of the specimens in terms of taking, transporting, preserving and preparing them, as well as by the difficulty of maintaining the moisture content, especially for soft clay soils with high sensitivity. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop an instrument for in situ determination of soil properties. It does not need to take in-situ soil samples, and the drainage conditions and stress state during the test are closer to the natural state in which the soil is located, so it is possible to test soils that are difficult to sample. In the in-situ test method of shear strength, the cross plate shear test is widely used in China.
